The wait is over – the all new Toyota RAV4 has broken cover and here we have all the details. The exterior styling has been given an overhaul as well as the interior which sees comfort and levels of space significantly increase. Improvements in design have increased boot space to 547 litres (with the seats in place). Loading the boot will be a breeze as the new RAV4 favours a top-hinged tailgate rather than side-hinged. This results in a much wider opening and lower lip height. Higher grade models will also benefit from a power-operated tailgate.
The exterior sees brand new styling, with the front end adopting the new Toyota ‘family’ face, already seen on the Yaris and new Auris. The side profile view clearly shows a rising belt-line which emphasises the new RAV4’s muscular quality.
Inside, there is a focus on a better driving experience. In addition to improved ergonomics, the RAV4 boasts a wealth of soft-touch materials, extra leather around the instrument panel and new cool blue illumination for all the switchgear. In the rear, the 60:40 rear seats retain their simple Easy Flat folding which provides a flat load floor in seconds. Passenger legroom is also increased as will as the installation of more comfortable seats.
Under the bonnet there will once again be a choice of two (front) or all-wheel drive, with an engine line-up that offers a 149bhp 2.0 litre petrol engine, a brand new 122bhp 2.0 litre diesel and a range topping 148bhp 2.2 litre diesel. Each engine offers improved CO2 emissions with an average of 12% improvement across the range compared with the current model.
